Storm watch predicted for tonight

Forecasters are predicting 2-5 inches of snow on the Valley floor by Tuesday in a winter storm watch issued by the National Weather Service early this morning.

According to the Weather Service, a new series of Pacific storms will bring snowy weather to the Sierra tonight through Tuesday evening.

The storm is expected to arrive in Carson Valley Tuesday morning, bringing heavy snow and gusty winds, causing blowing and drifting snow.

Forecasters predict 1-2 feet of snow in higher elevations by Tuesday night with several inches possible on the valley floors of Western Nevada.

The storm watch will begin late tonight and last through Tuesday afternoon.

The watch was issued because there is a potential for snow accumulations that could create hazardous driving conditions.

According to the Weather Service, the chance of measurable precipitation on Tuesday will rise to 80 percent before decreasing to 40 percent Tuesday night.

The storm should clear out on Tuesday night with a new storm predicted to arrive on Friday.
