Wildcats fare well at North Valleys youth tournament



Eighteen Wildcat wrestlers competed at the Sierra Wrestling Association Tournament at North Valleys High School on Jan. 15.


Bantam division (6-7-year-olds) gold medalists were Blake Murray, Colt Thurston and Connor Pierce. Michael Sepulveda took first place in the cadet division (14-15).


Silver medalists were bantam Tahoma Smokey, midget (8-9) Sara Meierdierck, schoolboy division (12-13) wrestlers Robert Grant and Kevin Quenga and cadet Seth Steelsmith. Bronze medalists were midget Brandon Pierce and cadet Jake Meierdierck.


Other Wildcat medalists included Ryan Taylor, Wyatt Caccamise, Dawson Hughes, Dallas Hughes, Kory Johnson, Jacob Johnson and Kole Lynch.


The Wildcats had 26 wrestlers compete in the SWA tournament hosted by the Spanish Springs Spartans at Hug High School last Sunday.


Five gold medalists emerged from those ranks, featured by cadet (14-15) Cody Spates, who wrestled up in the junior division (16-18) and went 5-0.


Colt Thurston took his second gold medal in the bantam division as did bantam Connor Pierce.


Newcomer Pierce Dykes took gold, pinning his two opponents in the novice division (10-11) and Douglas High School wrestler Eddie Koller took gold in the cadet division in his first appearance of the year for the Wildcats.


Silver medalists for the Wildcats were Michael Sepulveda, Blake Murray, Tahoma Smokey, Seth Steelsmith, Kory Johnson, Bryce Capra and Dillon Spates.


The sole bronze medalist for the Wildcats was Spencer Trivitt in the bantam division.


Other Wildcat medalists included Brandon Pierce, Jonathan Lawrence, Ryan Taylor, Dawson Hughes, Dallas Hughes, Jacob Johnson, Robert Grant, Seth Trivitt, Shane Trivitt, Andrew Maccagno, Robert Franklin, Kevin Quenga and Kole Lynch.


Douglas next sees action Jan. 29 at Dayton Middle School.
