The Carson Valley Art Association's annual fall show at the CVIC Hall is for the specific purpose of raising scholarship money for Carson Valley art students planning on continuing their interest in art at a college of their choice and scholarship money assisting those former scholarship recipients who are still in college.
This year, CVAA president Beth Bosmans announced the recipients of the two $500 scholarships: Jamie Swift and Keith Newman.
Swift, a 2004 graduate of Douglas High School, is attending Western Nevada Community College in the Carson Valley.
"I have wanted to be an artist all of my life," Swift said. "It would be wonderful if one day my art could be recognized and appreciated by people all over the globe. To be able to support myself doing what I love would be the best thing in the world."
Newman, 23, graduated from Truckee Meadows Community College in 2003, transferring his credits to the University of Nevada, Reno, where he is taking classes with a major in art, primarily photography and a minor in journalism.
"My goal is to get a job where I can do both such as with a magazine specializing in photography and articles on motorcycles and four-wheel drive vehicles. Both would be something I love." Newman said.
CVAA scholarship committee officials said they feel the two recipients will go a long way in life toward their goals.
