Lady Tigers find offense in big win

The Douglas girls' basketball team put together its most impressive offensive performance of the season with its 72-36 win against Hug Saturday afternoon in Minden.

Douglas had runs of 10-0, 7-0, 11-2, 8-0 and 6-0 on its way to the win.

Monica Knight scored 19 points to lead the Tigers while Autumn Burtt added 11 points.

Nicole Didero scored nine points, Jessica Waggoner had eight, Bridget Maestretti had seven, Katie Ezell scored six and Kristin Wyatt had five.

Gina Pfaffenberger scored four points and Lisa Christen and Kayla Horse each scored two in the win.

The Tigers scored an impressive 45 points through the middle two quarters and improved to 7-13 overall and 3-3 in Sierra League play.

Douglas is currently riding a three-game winning streak, its longest of the season.

JUNIOR VARSITY

Douglas picked up two league victories over the weekend to improve to 4-2.

Friday night, the Tigers played well on both offense and defense on their way to a 58-43 victory over South Tahoe.

Douglas had built a 25-19 lead by halftime.

Michelle Richardson led the scoring with 16 points and 15 rebounds while Sarah Phillips scored 12 points and pulled down 11 boards.

The team had a total of 46 rebounds in the game.

Katie Buffo once again hit two from 3-point range, finishing with 11 points.

Jamie Henry scored eight and Bailee Culver finished with seven, also hitting one from 3-point range.

On Saturday, Douglas came out with a quick lead against Hug and never gave it up, winning 52-19.

Bailee Culver scored 13 points to go with nine rebounds and three steals and Sarah Phillips scored nine and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Katie Buffo had seven points and four steals. Jamie Henry, Jamie Greer and Richardson each scored six points. Jaclyn Neddenriep scored three and Amanda Gangwish scored two.

FRESHMEN

The Lady Tigers finished off a perfect week with a big win over the Hug Hawks, 55-22.

Playing back-to-back days, the Tigers got off to a quick start on Saturday with 41 points in the first half.

Taryn Williams led the scoring with 10 points, followed by Ally Freitas and Danyelle Heidt each with eight points as the Lady Tigers knocked off Hug 55-22.

"Playing three games in a week is tough," coach David Pfaffenberger said. "That doesn't leave a lot of time for practice, school or a personal life.

"We've got two more weeks of this and finals are right in the middle. This is our season, this is where we find out how good we really are."

The freshman Tigers are now 5-1 in league and 14-3 overall.

Against Hug, Megan Mitchitarian, Edna Meza and Jessica Gorton all pitched in five points and Helen Fillmore and Melissa Brown each had four.
