Carson Valley Middle School eighth-grader Catie Davis was entered in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Patriot's Pen Essay Contest, at the state level of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW.
She competed against winners from five other districts of the state. The winners were announced at Ely, during mid-winter conference.
She placed third out of the six districts. She received a certificate, a medal and a $500 check, plus a $25 check from the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW.
"We congratulate her on her accomplishment in this contest," said Genevieve West of the Ladies Auxiliary.
