Whittell students place in VFW Patriotic Art Contest

On April 13, there were five judges at Whittell High School to judge six high school students' paintings for the Ladies Auxiliary Veterans of Foreign Wars Patriotic Art Contest. It took a while going back and forth by the paintings for them to pick the winners.

First-place winner was Jamie Lowe. She received a framed certificate and a check for $200. Second place went to Ryan Bivens. He received a framed certificate and a check for $100. Third place went to Nicole Osenski. She received a framed certificate and a check for $75.

Jamie's painting was sent on to the state judging, along with paintings from five other districts in Nevada for the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW. Those results won't be in until the state convention in June. The winner of the state competition goes to the contest in the Kansas City national headquarters against about 53 other states and territories.
