Sunday event benefits county children's center

The community is invited to taste "Chili for Children" this Sunday. The Carson Valley Children's Center will host this fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Nelson's Take Five, 1435 Highway 395 in Gardnerville.

"Come and celebrate this worthwhile cause with great food, fun and live music," said Conrad Buedel.

Chili for Children will serve a lunch of homemade chili, salad, cornbread and dessert. Choose from traditional beef chili, vegetarian chili or chicken and white bean chili. Participants will enjoy live music from Blue Valley featuring Michael Weaver and Rhiannon Hamblin. There will also be a raffle with prizes. The grand prize is a family weekend at Disneyland including airfare and hotel.

The ticket donation is $10 for adults and $5 for children. This includes a souvenir chili mug for the first 200 adults to attend. Tickets will be available at the door.

Chili for Children will benefit the Carson Valley Children's Center that will be constructed in north Douglas County, said Buedel.

"This 5,000-square-foot residence will provide a safe home environment for up to 10 children from infants to age 17. The Carson Valley Children's Center will supply the basic living necessities for these children including proper nutrition, hygiene, rest, nurturing, companionship, recreation and education. The facility is designed for short-term placements of Douglas County youth in need of safe housing," said Buedel.
