Edward Lee Stewart

1918-2006

Edward Lee Stewart, 88, died Dec. 21, 2006, of natural causes at his home. He was a resident of Ninilchik, Alaska.

Mr. Stewart was born Oct. 21, 1918 to Alfred Lee and Lois (Jordan) Stewart in Gardnerville. He was a 1935 graduate of Douglas County High School in Gardnerville. Mr. Stewart entered the U.S. Navy in 1936 serving as an aviation machinist's mate 3rd class until he was honorably discharged from the Fighting Squadron Five U.S.S. Yorktown on Oct. 20, 1941. He also served in the U.S. Merchant Marines from 1942 to 1945. He retired from the Retail Clerks International Union in 1977 in Castro Valley, Calif. He moved to Ninilchik Dec. 28, 2005, to be closer to his family. Mr. Stewart enjoyed golf, gardening, antiques, coins, polka, playing cards especially bridge and watching football and baseball. He enjoyed eating Eggos at every meal sometimes up to five times a day. Mr. Stewart was a great-grandfather. He loved the history of his birthplace. He had a great memory of things 70 years ago or sooner. He loved to be on the go.

Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Ethena May Stewart in 2002; and his sister, Farrie Bell Edison. He is survived by his son, Robert Stewart of Walnut Creek, Calif.; daughter, Pamela Rich of Ninilchik, Alaska; granddaughter, Tiffany Robuck of Ninilchik; grandson, Doug Rich of Anchorage, Alaska; great-granddaughters, Krystal and Jade Robuck both of Ninilchik, Alaska; great-grandson, Cieony Allen of Ninilchik, Alaska; sister, Edith Blevins of Yerington and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are in the care of Peninsula Memorial Chapel, Ninilchik, Alaska. Mr. Stewart is to be inurned with his wife, Ethena May Stewart at the Chapel of Chimes Cemetery in Hayward, Calif., at a later date.
