McDermid, EnEarl winners in final results

With all Douglas County precincts counted, Assembly District 39 candidate James Settelmeyer had more than double his nearest Republican competitor's votes in his race to succeed Assemblyman Lynn Hettrick.

Settelmeyer received 3,988 votes to Tahoe resident Rick Gardner's 1,404 and Barbara Smallwood's 1,255. Dark horse candidate John E. Dicks received 231 votes in unofficial results.

Republican county commissioner candidate Nancy McDermid appears to be the nominee with 3,834 votes to Janet Murphy's 2,541. McDermid, chairwoman of the Douglas County Planning Commission will meet Democrat Greta Hamsch in November.

Public Administrator Lynn EnEarl defeated Republican challenger Jay Lather, 4,396 votes to 1,944.

For statewide races, Douglas County early voting Republicans picked incumbent John Ensign for U.S. Senate, Sharron Angle for Congress, Jim Gibbons for governor, Brian Krolicki for lieutenant governor, Danny Tarkanian for secretary of state, and Mark Destefano for state treasurer.

Early voting Democrats in Douglas County picked Jack Carter for U.S. Senate, Dina Titus for governor, none of these candidates for lieutenant governor, Ross Miller for secretary of state, and Kate Marshall for state treasurer.

In the non-partisan races, Douglas voters favored sitting Supreme Court justices Nancy Becker and Michael Douglas over their challengers.
