Quilt raffle to benefit Relay For Life

The Carson Valley Closet Crafters have donated a handmade quilt for a Relay For Life fundraising raffle. Relay For Life takes place on Aug. 26-27 at Lampe Park.

The Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society fundraiser that celebrates cancer survivors and their caregivers and those lost to cancer. The first lap of the relay is called the "survivor lap" and is walked only by survivors and their caregivers. After that anyone can walk during the evening relay. Anyone who is registered to walk can do so and anyone can contribute to a walker. The idea is that "cancer never sleeps," hence the idea of walking all night long.

The quilt was an inspiration of the Closet Crafters designed and made by Eileen Boettiger, Pauline Gordon and Diane Malone. A purple-color theme was chosen that features machine-embroidered Laurel Burch cats and a geometric stars. The stunning quilt will be raffled on Saturday evening. The lucky winner will receive an original one-of-a-kind handmade quilt.

For a chance to win this quilt, simply purchase raffle tickets on sale at the south entrance to Raley's Market in Gardnerville 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. this Thursday and Friday. Tickets may also be purchased at the Carson Valley Food Closet and 1244 Waterloo Lane, Monday through Wednesday and Friday from 1-4 p.m.

The Closet Crafters are a group of volunteers who enjoy pooling their talents to benefit the Food Closet of Douglas County and charitable causes with the sale of their handcrafted items. Contact director Eileen Boettiger, or assistant director Donna Kurtz at 782-3711 for information.
