Second Saturday event showcases art in the Valley

The seven galleries of Carson Valley have formed a cooperative association to better advertise and promote art. The Carson Valley Art Gallery Association will be sponsoring events throughout the year and working together on a Carson Valley Art Tour brochure that will be distributed to tourist areas throughout Northern Nevada and California.

A monthly Second Saturday event has been scheduled, with each gallery sponsoring a special event which include artists' demonstrations, special sales and refreshments. The events scheduled for this Saturday include:

n Artisans International,1653 Lucerne St. Suite B, Minden, 783-8881 will have a 20-40 percent off sale and a preview of new items from Southern Africa including bead and wire, textiles, wood and baskets. Gallery hours: 11a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

n Artistic Viewpoints Gallery and Studio, 1368 Highway 395, Bldg. B, Gardnerville, 783-0633. A demonstration of animals in pastels by artist Karen Aleman. Demonstration to start at 10:30 a.m. Gallery hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

n Art!Rageous - 1685 Highway 395, No. 5, Minden Plaza, Minden, 783-4700. A new shipment of signed and numbered western prints on canvas and paper is being brought in specially for this event. Gallery hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday,10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

n Davis Gallery of Fine Art, 2285B Main St., Genoa, 783-0568, will feature figurative drawing in charcoal and pastel. A drawing demonstration by Greg Drinkwine will be at 2:30 p.m. Fresh fruit and champagne will be served. Gallery hours:11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.

n East Fork Gallery, 1503 Highway 395, Gardnerville, 782-7629. Jo Linda Smith will be demonstrating tile painting. Demonstration to start at 1 p.m. Gallery hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

n Lone Tree Frame Co. and Gallery, 1598 Esmeralda Ave., Minden, 782-2522. A reception for and an exhibit of the artwork of Mimi Jobe at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville - 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Gallery hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

n Minden FastFrame Art Gallery,1614 Highway 395, Minden, 783-9490. An exhibit on "What's What in the Wonderful World of Art." Examples and information about different types of art. Gallery Hours:10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
