World T'ai Chi/Qi Gong Day observed at event

In observance of World T'ai Chi/QiGong Day, the Carson Valley T'ai Chi Club and the Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department are sponsoring a free event to educate the community on this ancient Chinese art.

A T'ai Chi/QiGong Day event in Minden will be 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday at Minden Town Park, 6th and Esmeralda streets. The day will include various T'ai Chi and Qi Gong exercises, routines and demonstrations, with time for rest and mingling.

This is in conjunction with practitioners around the world, who will also be participating in outdoor demonstrations on that day.

"World T'ai Chi and Qi Gong Day is meant to bring practitioners together and allow people to learn more about T'ai Chi and Qi Gong through this day of celebration and practice that will be celebrated around the world on April 29," said a proclamation presented by the club to the Town of Minden.

According to T'ai Chi instructor Earl Mussett, T'ai Chi and Qi Gong are believed to boost the immune system, slow the aging process, lower high blood pressure, reduce anxiety and depression and improve balance and coordination.
