Eight-hour standoff leads to arrest

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department ended an eight-plus-hour standoff in Meyers with a suspect believed to have a violent criminal history Sunday.

The SWAT team was called out to Mewuk Drive at 5 p.m. to apprehend Joseph Cudia, 29. He is now in El Dorado County Jail on no bail with a parole violation, burglary and resisting arrest charges.

Cudia is being held with his roommate, Thomas Vaughn, 46, who was taken into custody Saturday afternoon in the Office Depot parking lot. Vaughn had a loaded weapon. He was also booked on drug charges and is being held on $32,500 bail.
