Jaggard helps lead Lassen College

The Lassen College Women's Soccer team is at it again and among those leading the way is Douglas High graduate Jenny Jaggard.

Jaggard, a defender from Douglas High School, who lives on the outskirts of Carson City, has started every game as a left fullback for the Cougars.

"DI coaches are already asking about her," Lassen coach Ben Wade said. "She is one of our most solid and consistent players. Every year we get several DI players from Nevada, and I simply smile at the lack of foresight these other college coaches lack when scouting players."

The team includes 10 players from Nevada, two from Texas, one from Hawaii, three from Brazil, four from England and two from France. Lassen is ranked No. 5 in the nation.

Lassen started off the season in grand fashion, winning the Yuba College Tournament Aug. 28-30. Lassen then traveled to Santa Barbara and beat both Cuesta and Santa Barbara 2-0 and 4-0 respectively. The Lady Cougars regular season unbeaten streak ended however, against defending National Champion Long Beach on Sept. 17. The Cougars until that point had won 51 regular season games in a row.

The Cougars are currently coming off a 9-1 victory against College of the Redwoods. They are also still ranked No. 5 in the nation and are unbeaten in conference. They're 11-1-1 overall, 5-0 in conference, and have three of the top 10 leading scorers in the nation.

"Our success is derived from a combination of talent, coaching philosophy, and community support," Wade said.

Most home games have close to 500 fans, at least half of the talent is derived from Nevada. Wade said he'll continue to develop on players from Nevada no matter where he is coaching.

Lassen, which began its program under Wade in 2002, has compiled a 61-6-1 record. Wade has a career record of 102-26-3, which places him No. 2 on the junior college winning percentage coaching list. He was also the Golden Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2003.
