Lassen soccer clinches league crown

Douglas High graduate Molly Hernandez scored twice as the Lassen College women's soccer team clinched its third straight conference title with a 12-0 win over Redwoods on Saturday in Susanville, Calif.

Lassen played two players down in the last 15 minutes. "I really do not like to run up the score." Lassen coach Ben Wade said. "I have been on the other end and it is not fun."

Wade praised the effort of Hernandez and fellow Douglas graduates Jenny Jaggard and Brit Christen.

"Molly Hernandez has been playing extremely well. Jenny Jaggard and Brit Christen, all players from Minden are excelling quite nicely here," Wade said.

With three games left, Lassen (15-1-1, 7-0), ranked No. 3 in the nation and No. 1 in California, is looking towards the playoffs.

"We have another chance to get back to the Final Four," Wade said. "We have the players, but we need to take it one game at a time, stay focused, fit, healthy and sharp."

Christen added an assist and another Nevada player, Lex Fields, also had an assist. Wade will travel to Carson City on Tuesday to watch the Carson-Douglas game.

"I am looking at several players for next year, and I expect to have the same kind of success with the future graduates as we have had in the past," Wade said.
