All-Carson Country football team named

OFFENSE

Quarterback

Travis Wood, 6-2, 175, so., Dayton: Stepped in as a full-time starter and threw for 1,959 yards and 20 TDs - both school records - to help Dust Devils achieve their first football winning record in school history. He earned second-team all-league recognition.

Running back

Spike Agosta, 5-8, 160 sr., Douglas: Sierra League offensive player of the year who also earned first-team all-region and all-league honors, plus he was named as a second-team all-league kicker. He rushed for 1,881 yards to break the school single-season rushing record, to go with 25 rushing TDs, one TD reception, 39 PATs and four field goals. He led the North with 207 points scored.

Zane Walker, 5-7, 145, sr., Dayton: Played QB last season, but moved to running back and accounted for nearly 2,000 all-purpose yards. He led the Dust Devils in rushing with 705 yards, gained another 604 yards as a receiver, and surpassed 600 yards on returns. He was named first-team all-league as a receiver.

Josh Inserra, 5-8, 150, sr., Yerington: First-team all-league. Two-year starter, had countless big runs. Most exciting type runner to watch. Makes something out of nothing. Rushed for 1,000 yards both sea son. Halfback in Fly wing offense. A threat to go the distance at any time. Played free safety on defense and returned punts and kicks.

Fullback

Keenan Copp, 5-10, 165 sr., Douglas: A first-team all-region and all-league linebacker, Copp was a player who rarely came off the field (he named the team's Ironman award winner). He ran for 286 yards and scored five touchdowns, and perhaps more significant, he was a constant lead blocker for Agosta and those 1,881 rushing yards.

Wide receiver

Scott Witter, 6-3, 189, jr., Carson: Tall and fast, Witter emerged as a clutch receiver for the Senators this season. He finished with 31 catches (second in the North) for 509 yards and four TDs. He was a first-team all-league receiver.

Trent Wood, 6-2, 185, sr., Dayton: A versatile athlete who had 31 receptions for 608 yards and six TDs. He scored 77 points and earned second-team all-league honors as both a receiver and kicker. He was also a second-team all-league safety.

Tight end

Danny Hopper, 6-2, 180, sr., Dayton: A two-way standout, Hopper receiver first-team all-league pick as both tight end and defensive end, plus he was named second-team all-league punter.

Offensive line

Tyson Estes, 6-1, 230 sr., Douglas: Sierra League Lineman of the Year. First team All-Region at offensive and defensive tackle. Was instrumental in Agosta's record-breaking season as a majority of the Tigers' rushing plays ran right behind left tackle. Controlled the line of scrimmage throughout the year. Arguably the best player on either side of the ball in the Sierra League this year. Only returnee from last year's line. Team's Most Inspirational Player.

Stephen Waicul, 6-0, 215, sr., Carson: A dedicated player who worked hard to get ready for the season, and was rewarded with a season in which he started throughout the season and helped the Senators rush for more than 1,300 yards as a team.

Bobby Sanchez, 6-0, 230, sr., Yerington: A first-team all-league selection on both offense and defense, and the Lions ran a lot of their offense behind him. A smart player who was known as a hard worker and committed. Sanchez was the Lions' Lineman of the Year.

Datin Whatcott, 5-11, 230, sr., Douglas: (Pronounced Dayton) Whatcott improved with every game and was instrumental in opening up the middle for Agosta and Copp. A first-team all-league center, he was the Tigers' Commitment to Excellence Player award winner.

Eric Walther, 6-2, 215, jr. Carson: A second-team all-league center selection with high work ethic and quick enough to go put his block on opposing linebackers. He moved to center after starting every game at guard last season.

Kicker

Tyler Ewald, 5-8, 156, sr, Galena: A first-team all-league kicker who converted seven of 10 field goal attempts. He kicked three field goals as the Grizzlies came from behind to stun then-undefeated Bishop Manogue 9-7. Two of those field goals came in the fourth quarter, a 48-yarder and then the game winning 52-yarder with 2 minutes, 35 seconds left to play. A player with high work ethic, Ewald also played some defensive back and wide receiver.

DEFENSE

Line

Mike Buffo, 5-10, 170, sr., Douglas: The Tigers' defensive end had a nose for the football all season, with several blocked punts and forced fumbles and fumble recoveries. He was the Tigers' long snapper, and Special Teams MVP.

Chase Houston, 6-0, 176, sr., Galena: Fast, strong and tenacious, a second-team all-league defensive end who came up big for the Grizzlies in their only win of the season against Manogue. He made four tackles behind the line of scrimmage, including a key sack late and a pass interception in the waning seconds to seal the win.

Tyree Holeridge, 5-7, 185, sr., Douglas: Nicknamed "Dash," a tough player who improved with every game. He was named second-team all-Sierra League at defensive tackle. A converted linebacker.

David Cadwallader, 5-8, 230, sr., Carson: Though he only received honorable mention all-league recognition, Cadwallader was a three-year starter at nose guard who was constantly given double team coverage by opposing teams. A leader on the field and off and named as the team's Defensive Player of the Year.

Linebacker

Mike Horrigan, 6-1, 200, sr., Carson: A two-way starter as a tackle on both offensive and defense, plus he played linebacker, was a co-captain and voted team MVP for the Senators. He moved from the defensive end position he played last year.

Scott Brower, 5-9, 170, sr., Dayton: Anchored the Dust Devils defensively with 93 solo tackles and 114 total tackles - both school records. He earned first-team all-league honors.

Casey Ernst, 5-11, 200, jr. Galena: A returning starter, the middle linebacker earned second-team all-league honors. He played a solid game against Carson, including a fumble recovery that led to a first-half touchdown. Slowed by shoulder injury that forced him to miss two games. Middle linebacker. Tough-nosed who has a feel for the game.

Kyle Luken, 5-11, 175, sr., Douglas: A first-team all-league selection and possibly the Tigers' most athletic player. A two-year starter who played the game with passion - Joey Manoukian Memorial Award recipient - tough enough that he played the second half of the season hobbled by an ankle injury without missing a game.

Backs

Andrew Rodriguez, 5-7, 150, sr., Carson: Despite lack of great size, he was a good cover cornerback and leader in defensive points for the Senators. Rodriguez earned honorable mention all-league recognition.

Bryan Brady, sr., 5-9, 175, Douglas: A tough physical player, crushing tackler and excellent pass-defender who was regarded as an emotional defensive leader for the Tigers. He was honored as a first-team all-region and all-league free safety.

Return specialist

Travis McCurry, so., Fernley: Named first-team all-league as a return man. He returned 19 kickoffs for 356 yards for an 18.7-yard average this season, plus he was the team's second leading rusher.

Punter

Tim Coleman, 6-3, 170, sr., Douglas: A first-team all-league selection whose strong leg was often responsible for giving the Tigers good field position. Averaged around 38 yards per punt - usually with tremendous hang time - and had a number of which pinned opponents inside the 15. A two-year starter as the Tigers' punter.
