Carson swim strong against Galena

The Carson High boys and girls swim teams turned in impressive efforts against Galena on Friday.

Not counting diving, Carson's boys beat Galena 144-136 while the Senators girls were edged by the Grizzlies 164-124. Neither of Carson's boys or girls teams have divers.

For the boys, Andrew Cardinal won the 200-yard freestyle in one minute, 59.06 seconds. In the 200 individual medley, Kiel Costella took second in 2:08.24 and Todd Stroup was third (2:27.24).

Jake Oxoby took second in the 50 free (24.86) and the 100 butterfly (59.87). John Wandel won the 100 free 951.22) while Cardinal took third (54.96).

Jeff Stroup won the 500 free in 5:23.64. Swimming the enter 500 yards all in a butterfly, Adrian Zeh took fourth in 6:28.03. Ian Murdock was third in the event.

Carson's 200 free relay was edged by Galena, finishing in 1:42.01 to the Grizzlies' 1:41.49. Carson's team consisted of Kellen Dale, Mike Lesman, Cardinal and Oxoby.

Wandel also won the 100 back (59.25) and Costella won the 100 breaststroke (1:10.29). Jeff Stroup took second in teh 100 breatstroke (1:12.27).

Costella, Wandel, Jeff Stroup and Cardinal won the 400 free relay (3:36.52). In the 200 medley relay, Wandel, Costella, Oxoby and Jeff Stroup took second (1:51.58) and Tood Stroup, Nesman, Zeh and Mack Malikowski took third.

For the girls, Sarah-Jo Metcalf, Hilary Schlager, Jessica Goddard and Rebekah Niehoff won the medley relay (2:04.74). Barbara Perkins won the 200 free (2:10.18) and Jamie Engan led a one-two-three sweep in the 100 fly, finishing in 1:01.22. Goddard was second (1:07.62) and Niehoff took third (1:11.51). Lauren Metcalf also took second in the 200 individual medley (2:25.49). In addition, Engan won the 500 free (5:13.11).
