See 100 years of fashion at fund-raiser

For a glimpse of a century of fashion, sign up now for a Victorian Tea and Fashion Show by the Ladies Guild of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Community.

The tea will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Chartz Hall, 3000 N. Lompa Lane, and is a fund-raiser for the guild. The funds will be used to support several church projects.

The program will feature fashions that were in vogue from 1860 through 1960. They were fashioned by guild members and will be presented by Carolyn Loftis of Reno.

Loftis has an extensive collection of period clothing. She began with Victorian apparel and has since branched out to include garments from other eras.

"This year we will be offering clothing from 100 years, spanning from 1860 to 1960," said Anne Zawodniak, co-chairwoman of the show.

"There will be fashions from the Edwardian era, World War I, Victorian, the Roaring '20s, Depression years and up to the '50s."

Zawodniak said Loftis' collection does not include men's fashions, but men are welcome to attend the show. She said the women are hoping to have at least 140 people attend. They'd like to clear $2,000 for the church.

Proceeds from the show will be turned over to the church, specifically to the Rev. Jerry Hanley, who will determine where the greatest need for the money is.

"This is the first time we've held the tea as a fund-raiser, so we had several expenses to cover. When we do it a second time, our expenses will be less," Zawodniak said.
