Moore, Smith shine for Carson track

Matt Moore and Tilor Smith turned in impressive efforts for the Carson High track team on Friday in the first day of the Reed Invitational.

Moore set a personal record of 40.53 seconds in winning the 300-meter hurdles while Smith eclipsed his personal best by a foot in placing second in the long jump at 21 feet, 11 1/2 inches.

"Matt didn't start off real strong in his race," Carson coach Todd Ackerman said. "He finished extremely strong."

Of Smith's six jumps, five were over 21-5. "He was really consistent," Ackerman said. "He's very close to getting 22."

For Carson's frosh-soph boys, Blake Easby placed third in the pole vault with a personal best 10-6. Jacob Jeffers qualified for the finals of the frosh-soph boys 200 with the third fast time of 24.60.

Also for the frosh-soph boys, Eric Walther took second in the discus (121-6 1/2 ) and Calab Condor was eighth (105-2).

For the girls, Alex McAlman eclipsed her personal best by 2 1/2 feet in the shot put, taking seventh at 32-8 and Andrea Keirstead ran a personal best 52.84 in the 300 hurdles. The meet continues today with Carson well-represented in virtually all of the events.
