Carson boys soccer wins ugly

It wasn't pretty, but the Carson High boys soccer team came away with a 7-3 win on Saturday at Hug.

"It was just a sloppy game," Carson assistant coach Jim Wilcher said. "The playing conditions were bad, but we'll take the win. We needed it."

Margarito Diaz scored two goals and among others who scored goals for Carson were Drew Anderson, who scored his first goal of the season, Kurt Schlicker, Edgar Gomez and Julio Deleon.

Hug received two penalty kicks, scoring on one and missing high on the other.

The Senators continue to battle through injuries as Ernesto Ayala, Dan Pasqual and Carlos Hernandez are all out for the season. Ayala was the team's top scorer when he was hurt.

Midfielder Chris Thorson may also be out for the year with a hip injury.

"We have a lot of injuries right now," Wilcher said. "We're kind of banged up."

Carson improved to 4-3 in the Sierra League, but has more than a week off before it hosts North Valleys in a key game on Oct. 15. "That will be a good time for us to get healthy," Wilcher said.

Kevin Brush came up from junior varsity to help lead the defensive effort against Hug. "He did a very, very fine job stepping in," Wilcher said.
