Obituary: Olive Zella Newton

Olive Zella Newton, a Nevada resident for the past 53 years, died May 22, 2003, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital after a brief illness. A native of Merrill, Wis., she was born Feb. 19, 1915, to Elliott P. Mole and Daisy Ryan. She grew up in Long Island, N.Y.

She married Charles Henry Newton Oct. 11, 1942, and following World War II, she and her family moved first to California, then to Northern Nevada, finally settling in Carson City in the early 1950s.

Mrs. Newton worked first as a telephone operator and teller at the First National Bank of Nevada. She then began a career in the newspaper field as a circulation manager for the Carson City Nevada Appeal. She held the position for many years before going to work for the right-of-way division of the Nevada Highway Department. Following retirement, she continued to work, this time as a volunteer for Nevada Aging Services.

She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter Elaine.

Among her survivors are her daughter Marilyn Newton and granddaughter and husband, Coral and Dave Dayton, all of Reno.

No service is scheduled.
