Locals to play in all-star basketball game

The Carson Country will be well-represented on the East roster for the Fallon Optimist All-Star boys basketball game to be held May 31.

The 12-player roster for the East boys team has been announced, NevadaPrep.com has reported. Carson High's Ryan Henry, Ed Jaquette and Ricky Correlli are on the roster along with Dayton's Jake Deen, Nick McQueen and Brian Lahmann and Yerington's Wes Thomas.

Carson advanced to the NIAA State 4A Basketball Championships while Dayton went all the way to the NIAA 3A State title game, losing the crown by one point. Dayton's Rob Streeter will coach the East team.

Wooster's Julian Hatcher, the state's leading scorer with a 29.6-point average, also will play for the East. Other players for the East are Lowry's Joe Robinson, Walter Lewis and Erick Weed of Fallon and Sean O'Brien of Wooster.

The game will be played at Elmo Derrico Gym on the Churchill County High School campus in Fallon. There will also be a girls game.

The two games will feature East and West all-star teams, comprised of graduating seniors chosen from throughout Northern Nevada. The girls game will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the boys game at 7:15.

Paul Croghan, who recently retired after a long and distinguished career as the Carson coach, will be in charge of the East squad.

Spanish Springs coach Jerry Hogan will direct the West boys team. Manogue coach Carissa Welch will be the West girls coach. The other three rosters are being finalized and will be announced soon.

Admission to the doubleheader is $5 for adults, and $2 for high school students (with ID) and senior citizens. Children 12 and younger will be admitted free. The proceeds will go to support various activities sponsored by the Fallon Optimist Club in Churchill County.
