Optimist Classic will have Douglas flavor

The Fallon Optimist All-Star Classic basketball game will have a certain Douglas influence to it, although much less than originally hoped for.

Douglas boys' coach Rob Streeter will coach the Blue team, and all-region point guard Mike Gransbery, all-region center Keith Olson and backup center Joe Nady are listed on his roster.

Olson, however, will miss the game as he is still recovering from surgery on his foot earlier this year, and Nady may miss due to previous work obligations.

Streeter had hoped to get Nate Whalin in the mix as well, but Whalin will be trying out for a summber baseball team the day of the game.

That leaves Gransbery, who is headed for Lassen College next year, as the Tigers' lone representative on the floor. Gransbery may play basketball and soccer at Lassen, depending on how his schedule shapes up.

The game will be Tuesday in Fallon.

Among the other players on Streeter's roster are North Valleys' standout Archie Kovich and his teammates Craig Davidson and Jason Lyons, Reed's Alex McKenzie and Fallon's Charlie Lockwood.

"I think we'll definitely be running and gunning a lot," Streeter said. "We'll get two practices in just to figure out a rotation and some basic plays. it should be a lot of fun."

He also brought in three players from Dayton, the school he coached at before Douglas, with Travis Wood, Jacob Jones and Erik Hopper.

Rounding out the list is Eric Geddes (Silver Stage), Mikey Adams (Spring Creek), Garey Smith (Yerington) and Tony Gill (Spring Creek).

Hug's Brian Voyles will coach the Silver team which will presumably feature Hawk standout Armon Johnson and any players picked from Galena, Reno, McQueen, Carson, South Tahoe, Elko, Spanish Springs, Wooster, Damonte Ranch and the smaller schools in the north.

An all-star softball game is scheduled for Thursday in Fallon. Fallon's Bill Archer and Carson's Scott Vickery are scheduled to coach.

Douglas seniors Morgan Barone and Tisha Luken have been invited to play in the game.
