Brazeau, Steele win state titles

Jessica Brazeau and Sarah Steele won all-around titles at the State Gymnastics Championships held this past weekend at Carson High.


More than 450 gymnasts from across the state competed in the event hosted by Silver State Gymnastics.


Competing for Silver State, Brazeau won the state all-around title at level 6 in the 11-year-old division. Steele won the all-around title at level 6 in the 8-9-year-old division.


Brazeau finished with an all-around score of 36.625 and won titles in the vault (9.300) and floor exercise (9.550). Brazeau also placed sixth in the uneven bars (8.750) and third in the balance beam (9.025).


Steele won the title in the beam (9.275), placed second in the floor (9.575) and bars (8.700) and took sixth in the vault (8.675).


At level 6 in the 12 and over division, Rachel Nietzke took second in the all-around with a 36.050. She won the bars (9.400), placed second in the floor (9.150), third in the vault (9.025) and sixth in the beam (8.475).


At level 5 in the 10-year-old division, Kalie Parmenter too third in the all-around with a 36.425. She placed fourth in the vault (8.700), ninth in the bars (9.000), second in the beam (9.225) and won the floor (9.500).


At level 5 for 7-8-year-olds, Arel Getty took fourth in the all-around with a 35.175. She placed seventh in the vault (8.350), second in the bars (9.225) and sixth in the floor (9.075). Also taking fourth in the all-around with a 36.225 at level 5 in the 11-year-old division was Samantha Cobb. She placed second in the bars (9.425), fifth in the vault (8.750), sixth in the beam (9.050) and ninth in the floor (9.00).


Kelsey Chicvara took fourth in the all-around at level 6 for 8-9-year-olds with a 35.225. She placed second in the vault (9.125), third in the bars (8.500), eighth in the beam (8.450) and sixth in the floor (9.150).


At level six in the 11-year-old division, Shawntay Hudson placed fifth in the all-around with a 35.700. She took fifth in the vault (9.000), eighth in the bars (8.700), sixth in the beam (8.750) and fourth in the floor (9.250).


At level 5 for 9-year-olds, Nicole Updegrove won the floor (9.375) on her way to sixth in the all-around (35.225).


Others to compete for Silver State were: Level 4, 10-year-olds -- Hayel Ignatich, vault, third, 9.300; bars, third, 9.150; all-around, eighth, 33.375. Danielle Moffitt, beam, sixth, 8.625; floor, third, 9.150; all-around, ninth, 35.075. Carley Allison, bars, sixth, 9.100; all-around, 16th, 34.125.


Level 4, 12-year-olds: Samantha Smith, all-around, 20th, 31.850.


Level 5, 7-8-year-olds: Maddisoni Saarem, all-around, 11th, 33.925.


Level 5, 9-year-olds; Amanda Brazeau, vault, fifth, 8.350; floor, fourth, 9.200; bars, seventh, 9.050; all-around, seventh, 34.975. Natalie Trejo, all-around, 15th, 33.125.


Level 6, 12 and over: Danielle Nietzke, vault, fifth, 8.900; bars, fourth, 8.300; all-around, 12th.


Level 7, 14 and over: Brooke Conway, vault, fourth, 9.200; floor, sixth, 9.075; all-around, ninth, 34.325.
