The Carson Cardinals baseball team's adventure for its first day of the Doc Stewart's Invitational in Roseburg, Ore. ended with an 8-7 loss to the West Albany, Ore. Rockets.
The Cardinals left for the game at 3:30 a.m. Thursday and because of van trouble, didn't arrive until shortly before game time. West Albany, a team that features several college players, then took advantage of eight walks in the first two innings to take an 8-0 lead.
The Cardinals fought back, scoring once in the sixth inning and six runs in the seventh. In the sixth, Aaron Henry singled and scored on Nick Shine's single.
In the seventh, Carl Winter walked and Ryan Henry was robbed of a hit when the second baseman made a diving stop of his line drive and ended up forcing Winter at second. Tony Teixeira followed with a double and Alex Tanchek had an RBI single.
Carson eventually loaded the bases and scored two runs on a wild pitch when Aaron Henry scored all the way from second. Murph Gardner's two-run single made it 8-7 before West Albany escaped with the win.
Danny Rotter gave the Cardinals a chance to come back when he scattered six hits and allowed two runs over five innings. The Cardinals will play at 7:30 p.m. today against Doc Stewart's.
