Lake Tahoe relay today

Runners of all ages will be out on the road today when the 39th annual Robert DeCelle Jr. Memorial Lake Tahoe Relay is held.

The race starts at 7 a.m. from the South Lake Tahoe Y, located at the intersection of highways 50 and 89, and traditionally attracts 90 to 100 teams.

The relay consists of seven-member teams running the 72-mile perimeter around Lake Tahoe. Runners cover distances ranging from 8 to 12 miles.

Eleven different divisions are offered for men, women from masters to high school age levels.

Robert DeCelle Sr. originated the race in the mid-1960s and named it in memory of his son, who died in Vietnam in 1972.
