Carson girls tourney set to begin

Staff Reports

The Carson High girls basketball team should receive a tough test right from the start in its own tournament.

Carson (2-1) will open with Rodriguez of Fairfield, Calif., at 3:30 p.m. at Carson High in its own tournament sponsored by the Lions Club. Rodriguez has shown it can play with the top teams in Northern Nevada early in the season when it played McQueen tough in a 43-38 loss.

The Senators will also play at 8 p.m. today against Fernley. The tournament will be broken up into two five-team pools with all the teams playing two games today and two games Friday.

Games will also be played beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the the pool winners to play for the championship at 3:30 p.m.

"I think it will be a fun tournament," Carson coach Alana Williams said. "I think it will be good competition."

Williams said she likes how her team has progressed so far. "I think they're coming along," she said. "They're starting to understand what I expect of them. I think they're starting to come together."

Carson has been led so far by Ciarra Christian and Katie Kotter. Among other players who have contributed in ways that aren't always seen in the statistics is Tabitha Adams, Williams said.

"She does a lot of stuff," said Williams, who added Adams has played outstanding defense.
