Obituary: Jack P. Simpson

A funeral with full military honors for Jack P. Simpson, 68, a Carson City resident for the past 29 years, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Walton's.

Mr. Simpson died Jan. 27, 2002, in Carson City. He was born Aug. 31, 1933, to Martin and Selena Simpson in Franklin, Pa.

He married his wife Mary in 1954 in Sugar Creek, Pa.

Mr. Simpson was the only enlisted Marine in the Presidential Honor Guard for President Nixon at Mildenhall, England. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served three tours in Vietnam, receiving three Purple Heart awards with valor. He also received the Joint Service Commendation Medal.

After his military career, he worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Carson City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, half brother Samuel Burgard, niece Susan Simpson and nephew Martin Green.

Among his survivors are his wife Mary; sons Robert and Glenn, both of Fernley; daughter Kim Coker of Gardnerville; brother and sister-in-law Arthur and Diane Simpson of Minden; half brothers Charles, Walter and Raymond Burgard, all of Franklin; sisters Gail Bento of Racine, Wis. and Musetta Latchaw of Franklin; grandchildren Jack, Mary, Lance, Dalton, Dillon, Rebbeca and Patrick and future daughter-in-law Deanna.

Interment will be in Lone Mountain Cemetery.
