Walker named as Dayton's coach

Rick Walker has been named as the new football coach at Dayton High.

Walker came to Dayton this fall and has coached the freshman football and basketball teams. He replaces Butch Cattanach, who resigned after the 2001 season. Walker, who teaches science at Dayton, coached for six years in Oregon and Montana before coming to the school.

Dayton went 1-8 under Cattanach last season. Walker told NevadaPrep.com that he would like to have Cattanach on his staff and Cattanach said he would welcome the chance.

"I think Rick Walker's a great guy," Cattanach said. "He's going to do a great job at Dayton. The kids are going to love him.

"If he wants me to help him, I'd love to help him. I'm real excited for him."
