Sparks man dies in motorcycle crash

A motorcycle crash Monday afternoon on State Route 445 -- also known as Pyramid Highway -- near Winnemucca Ranch Road, resulted in the death of a Sparks man, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The driver of a 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed as he approached a curve in the road and failed to negotiate it. He ended up rolling into the dirt shoulder and striking a drainage culvert before being thrown from the motorcycle.

Though the driver was wearing a helmet when the crash occurred, he "sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene," said NHP Trooper Patrick McGill.

The name of the man is being withheld until his family is notified, McGill said.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of the man's death as well as to find out whether alcohol was a factor in the accident, he added.
