Obituary: John Herdt

A memorial service with military honors will be held for John Joseph Herdt at 1 p.m. Sunday, at the Topaz Community Center.

Mr. Herdt died on Oct. 24, 1999. He was born in New York City in 1932.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Post 3630 at Topaz Ranch Estates.

Mr. Herdt moved to the area in 1991. Prior to that, he worked at UCLA as facility manager until retirement and was in the Democratic Central Committee.

Surviving are his wife Joanne; daughter, Jacqueline; sister, Peggy; stepsons Jared and Andrew Clark; grandsons Dylan, Zachary and Kald; nephews Richard Duffy, John Weber, Tom and Gary Herdt; nieces, Jerry Duffy, Winnie Edmiston, Kathy Glancotti and Mary Shea; and sister-in-law Mary Herdt.

Memorial donations may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3630 or to the American Heart Association.
