Families of men missing in Korean War are being sought by veterans group

The families of two men missing in the Korean War are being sought by veterans of the "Forgotten War."

Today marks 50 years since North Korea invaded the south, beginning a conflict that killed 54,000 Americans and wounded 104,000.

More than 8,100 Americans are listed as missing in action from the Korean War.

Veterans are still trying to find the families of Robert Harrison Atha of Lincoln County and Francis E. Harrison of Eureka to provide DNA samples to the Department of Defense for help with identification.

On Thursday, Nevada veterans presented Gov. Kenny Guinn with a Korean War Commerative Flag.

The state is an active member of the 50th Anniversary of the Korean War Commemmoration Community Program established by the Department of Defense.

Program organizers will develop and host at least three programs a year to honor Korean War veterans and their families.

This weekend a gala event in Reno recognized and honored Korean War veterans.

The Dale O. Smith Chapter No. 246 of the Air Force Association and the Reno Council of the Navy League of the United States joined forces to organize the event.
