Galena volleyball team earns High Desert's No. 2 seed

The Galena volleyball team earned the High Desert's No. 2 seed into the Northern Nevada 4A playoffs with a hard fought 15-9, 15-13, 14-16, 15-11 win Thursday against Elko.


Galena finished in second place in the High Desert League behind Fallon at 12-4. The Grizzlies will host a first round playoff match at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The semifinals and finals will be played next Saturday at South Tahoe.


"They played very, very well," said Galena Coach Teresa Burrows about her team. "It was a battle as the scored indicated. It was a fun match to be a part of."


The statistics showed that several Galena players had huge nights. Lauren Wallace set up the attack with 68 assists.


Kellie Burton had 25 kills, Joanna Hixon Had 20 kills and Tammie Nettleton added 17 kills.


Leading the defense were Burton with four blocks and 25 digs, Nettleton with 22 digs, Ashley Satterwhile with seven blocks and 21 digs, Wallace with 20 digs, Hixon with seven blocks and 13 digs and Seslee Howell with three blocks.
