Speed and impairment are suspected in a fatal collision that occurred around 4 p.m. Sunday on Highway 50 near Golf Club Drive near the Carson-Douglas line.

A preliminary investigation indicates a Honda sport utility was westbound on Highway 50 at a high rate of speed when the driver failed to negotiate a curve, according to Sgt. Chris Brown.

The Honda collided with a Volvo before running off the highway’s right shoulder, overturning and ejecting two occupants.

A woman was pronounced deceased by medical personal while being transported to a local area hospital.

Four others sustained injuries in the crash and were transported to a local area hospital. This includes two men, a juvenile male and a woman.

Neither occupant of the Volvo was injured in the crash.

To date, the northwestern division of the Nevada Highway Patrol has investigated 16 fatal crashes, resulting in 17 fatalities.

This is the second fatal crash on Highway 50 so far in 2025. A wrong-way collision near Glenbrook in March killed a Carson City man and resulted in vehicular homicide charges against the driver, who was allegedly impaired.

Highway Patrol and other Western Nevada jurisdictions are conducting joint efforts looking for impaired drivers through Saturday.
