Genoa, Nev. — A spot just this side of Carson Pass got 1.1 inches of rain on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. That showed up as 190 additional cubic feet per second on the West Fork’s river gauge at Woodfords which made a nice spike right around 12:50 a.m.

For a change we know what knocked the power out to Minden around 3:30 p.m. Thursday after a couple of lightning strikes before the afternoon’s downpour. Fredericksburg resident Jeff Garvin reported his detector had 79 lightning strikes.

There were a couple of smoke reports down by Bridgeport Reservoir, with nevadafireinfo.org reporting a tenth-acre blaze on the northwest shore of the lake. We’ll see if any smokes turn up when the wind picks up.

NVEnergy.com reported 1,961 customers without power mostly in Minden and along the Foothills. Power was back for all but around 35 customers by around 5 p.m. with the rest estimated to be back before 8 p.m.

Depending on the weather, Douglas County Mosquito Abatement plans to conduct mosquito ground fogging 9 p.m. tonight at the Carson Valley Golf Course and surrounding neighborhoods. The district set up a social media page to provide updates on their activities and protocols. 

There are a couple of events today, with researcher Debbe Nye offering a brief “History of Chautauqua” followed by a portrayal by a guest Young Chautauquan 10 a.m. Visit Dangberg.org for more information. “The Wild Robot” will be Gardnerville’s first movie in the park 8 p.m. tonight.

The 20th annual Rappin’ to Minden Car Show will take over downtown Minden 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The event is hosted by the Northern Nevada chapter of Inliners International Car Club.

The 4-H Herpetology Club will be featured at Family Day, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Main St, Gardnerville.

Thunderstorms might be back after 2 p.m. today, though by their nature, they tend to be somewhat random. Otherwise, the high is predicted to hit 87 degrees with a 5 mph north wind this afternoon.
