Friday was D-Day for public comment on the environmental analysis for the proposed move of Barton Hospital to Stateline, though itโs far from the last time the public will get to weigh in on the controversial project.
The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency is requiring an Environmental Impact Statement be prepared to review potential environmental impacts from the proposed project and possible amendments to the Douglas South Shore Area Plan.
A Notice of Preparation is located on the Barton project page for a summary of the proposed project and information on how to provide input. The deadline was set for June 6, according to an update issued by the agency.
The TRPA Advisory Planning Commission held a public scoping meeting on May 14, 2025. A recording of the meeting is available on the Meeting Materials page.
Once the scoping period is complete, over the next eight to 10 months, TRPA will prepare a Draft Environmental Impact Statement to evaluate the potential impacts of the proposed project and possible amendments to the Douglas County South Shore Area Plan.
Another public comment period will occur once the draft statement is completed and released for review.
Any changes to the plan resulting from the statement would require multiple public meetings both by Douglas County and the TRPA.
