Two Douglas High School art students are American Vision nominees, making them eligible to compete at the national level, Nevada Museum of Art reported on Monday.

Seniors Kellan Pendola and Jordan Hoffman are the recipients of multiple gold key awards in the 2024 Scholastic Art Awards. Pendola is a student of art instructor Kelley Yost while Hoffman is Zoe Shorten’s student. Only five of the nearly 600 participants were nominated for the national competition.

In all, Douglas High School had 34 students participate in the annual contest, with 13 winning gold keys.

A joint exhibition featuring the gold key and those nominated for American Visions is on view through Feb. 28 at Sheppard Contemporary Gallery in the Church of Fine Arts Building at the University of Nevada, Reno and at the E.L. Cord Museum School at the Nevada Museum of Art.

This is the 25th year the Nevada Museum of Art has overseen the Northern Nevada visual component of the Scholastic Art Awards.

An awards ceremony will recognize the students 6-7 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Nightingale Concert All on the UNR campus.
