Arbor Day, Earth Day’s leafier uncle, is Friday with tree plantings occurring in Gardnerville, Genoa and Alpine County.

Gardnerville, which was named a Tree City USA for the 21st year in a row, will be planting three trees at the Stodick detention pond at Kittyhawk and Toler Lane on Friday afternoon.

Town Arborist Geoffrey LaCost said they will be planting three trees, a chestnut, a northern catalpa and a linden along the edge of the turf in the basin.

“All three trees are known to be great shade producers,” he said.

Scouts usually turn out to help plant the trees.

Genoans will gather at the Genoa Town Park 10-11 a.m. Friday to plant a tree.

Alpine County announced its 2nd annual Arbor Day Tree Planting event, presented by the Forest Health Community Working Group at Curtz Lake on 10 a.m. Friday.

Due to limited parking availability at Curtz Lake, attendees are encouraged to carpool from Turtle Rock Park Community Center. Carpooling not only reduces traffic congestion but also minimizes the environmental impact of transportation.

Following the tree planting, lunch will be provided by Sierra Chef at Turtle Rock Park Community Center starting at noon. Attendees are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle, sunscreen, and closed-toed shoes for their comfort and safety during the event.
