2023 Nevada Day Parade enters history books

Nevada Day entries from Douglas County were spread out across the more than 200 floats in the annual parade.

The Douglas High School marching band was accompanied by the Tiger Battalion just short of halfway through the parade.

North county organizations Sierra Lutheran High School and Shine Church marched in the parade, as did Kids and Horses and business North Sails.

Little Miss Washoe waved to the crowd from the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California entry.

The parade topped three hours.

Douglas came in fourth in the annual beard contest with only a half-dozen entries, including Record-Courier Editor Kurt Hildebrand.

Carson City had more entries than any of the surrounding counties, combined. Former longtime champion Virginia City managed to muster a single entrant., keeping Douglas out of last place.

The parade celebrates Nevada’s 159th year since statehood, which was Oct. 31, 1864.

The Seeliger Elementary School chorus sang “Home Means Nevada” as that entry made its way through downtown.
