The aspens in Hope Valley could use a little more cool weather before they hit optimum leaf peeping, but that won’t stop Alpine County from celebrating them this weekend.

Friends of Hope Valley are gathering 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and Sunday at Picketts Junction at highways 88 and 89 to provide nature, history and hiking.

The Alpine County Visitors Center and Chamber in Markleeville will be hosting Indian tacos by Dale Bennett and locals artists.

The Friends of the Library will host live Bison bluegrass at 4 p.m. today in Library Park in Markleeville.

The second annual Chili Cook-Off and Salsa Contest is 12:30-2 p.m. at the Markleeville Library Park.
