CHS baseball ends season in regional play-in game

The Carson High baseball team took on Reed twice toward the end of last week with the first game of two deciding who would have home field advantage in the play-in game for the Class 5A regional playoffs.

Reed won the first contest, 10-0, to get to play at home Friday against the Senators.

Friday, the Raiders were able to get past Carson High again, this time in a dramatic affair that ended with an extra-inning walk-off home run.

Carson led 2-0 after two-and-a-half innings thanks to Tanner Boheimer coming around to score after stealing second and advancing home on a wild pitch.

In the top of the third, Decarlo Quintana singled to right field, scoring Jeremy Hernandez.

Quentin Beck gave Carson a 3-1 lead after knocking in Marcus Montes on a single up the middle, but Reed answered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Reed took a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run, but the Senators hadn’t folded just yet.

With two out and two on, Montes singled in a run followed by a Boheimer triple, which knotted the game at 6-6.

After getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh, Carson couldn’t capitalize on its next frame at the plate.

Reed ended the contest in the eighth with a two-run homer off the bat of sophomore catcher Nico Leonard.

Carson’s season comes to an end with a 4-25 overall record.

Dayton baseball takes two of three from Lowry

Dayton High baseball was able to take two of its final three games in the regular season, downing Lowry 10-2 and 18-15 while falling in the middle game, 12-9.

Nathan Koback went 4-for-4 out of his leadoff position in game two while senior Ty Eakins was 3-for-5 with a double and a pair of RBIs.

Fellow senior Jacob Moore went 4-for-4 as well at the plate.

Moore had a dominant day at the plate in the final game, going 5-for-5 with three home runs and 13 RBIs.

Per the NIAA record book, Moore’s 13 RBIs in a single game is the second most in NIAA history.

In 1995, Durango’s Ryan Tack drove in 16 RBIs against Clark.

Dayton ends the season with a 6-17-1 overall record and did not qualify for the Class 3A North regional tournament.

Lowry sweeps Dayton softball

Despite dropping three games to Lowry to end the regular season, the Dayton High softball team will be the No. 6 seed in the upcoming Class 3A North regional softball tournament.

Dayton will open the regional tournament against Lowry at 11:15 a.m. Thursday morning.

The Class 3A North regional tournament is double elimination so both teams will get a second game regardless of result.

Over the three games, the Dust Devils fell by finals of 10-1, 11-0 and 15-5.

In the final game, freshman LaSade Conti and sophomore Isabelle Foster were credited with an RBI apiece.

Sierra Lutheran baseball closes regular season

The Falcon baseball team will get this week in preparation for the Class 1A North regional tournament, starting Friday at Smith Valley High School.

Sierra Lutheran ended the season with an 11-7 overall record and a 10-6 clip in regional play.

Friday, the Falcons will play Wells High School at 11:15 a.m. in the opening round of regional play.

Both teams will play again Friday, regardless of result thanks to the double elimination setup.

Sierra Lutheran dropped both meetings with Wells this season 11-6 and 13-12.

This past Friday, the Falcons closed out their regular season by splitting with Excel Christian in a doubleheader.

Sierra Lutheran dominated game one, winning 13-3 behind a nine-run fifth inning.

Junior Joseph Seddon went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and three RBIs while fellow junior Alan Morales was 3-for-4 with two RBIs of his own.

Seddon also had 10 strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work on the hill.

Excel Christian got the better of Sierra Lutheran in game two, winning 14-11.

Senior Charles Gagen was 4-for-5 with five RBI for the Falcons in the loss while Jonah Paul was 1-for-5 with two RBIs to his name.

Gagen finishes the regular season with a .660 batting average, which was the best in the Class 1A North this spring. He also hit nine doubles and had three triples in 18 games played.
