On Saturday, Republican candidate for president Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is scheduled to attend the 8th annual Basque Fry hosted by Adam Laxalt at the Corley Ranch in Gardnerville.

Laxalt is former Nevada Attorney General and 2016 candidate for governor. He was a key Trump backer in both 2016 and 2020.

However, he and DeSantis both served in Iraq as Navy judge advocate generals and were roommates during training, according to the Associated Press.

Among those on the guest list are speakers Dana Loesch, Dave Rubin, and Steve Cortes, along with officials Gov. Joe Lombardo, Rep. Mark Amodei, Lt. Gov. Stavros Anthony and Laxalt.

This will be the earliest in the season the Basque Fry has been conducted. It is typically held in August, but the possibility that a state presidential primary could be held in February has moved things forward.

Nevada Republicans are suing the state to opt out of the presidential primary process, saying the new law violates their right to association.

Douglas County Republicans hosted a town hall Thursday to discuss the repercussions of the 2023 Legislative session.
