It was cool as the parade started just after 9 a.m. as both sides of Esmeralda Avenue in Minden were lined with parade goers.

Parade winners are scheduled to be announced in Lampe Park in Gardnerville at 11:30 a.m.

There were around 65 entries in the parade, which was dominated by business entries.

Since it was an off-election cycle year, the Douglas GOP was the only political float.

It’s 52 degrees this Carson Valley Days Parade morning under partly cloudy skies.

The team at Anytime Fitness, showing their competitive streak, was decorating their float in the Douglas High School parking lot at 6:35 a.m.

The parade should be done before the chance of thunderstorms increases around 11 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Highway 395 will be closed from Buckeye Road to Waterloo Lane 8-11 a.m. as the parade makes its way from Minden Park to Lampe Park.

Streets in Minden used to stage parade entries, like County Road, are already closed in places this morning in preparation for the parade. Entries stage at Douglas High School and then pass down County Road on their way to the starting point at 9 a.m.

Detours are available for travelers crossing the Valley.

Members of the Minden Town Board are cooking for their annual breakfast this morning.

The parade disperses at Lampe Park, where the Carson Valley Days Carnival will be in full swing. Carson Valley Days activities like the kids greased pole, the horseshoe tournament, arm wrestling and the beard contest will be accompanied by live music today.

The fun continues on Sunday with cornhole, watermelon eating and the annual Carson Valley Days duck derby and raffle.
