The annual Share Your Holiday Food Drive raised the second highest donation of money for the Carson Valley Community Food Closet in its two decade history.

“We are so thrilled with the results,” said Carson Valley Food Closet Director Sarah Sanchez. “We had a wonderful assortment of products being donated and sorted that day for distribution as early as Monday.”

According to event sponsor KTVN Channel 2, the Dec. 8 event raised $91,779.19 in donations and 23,783 pounds of food in 12 hours.

Carson Valley Health donated $4,500 to the food closet, half of which was donated by employees and medical staff.

The hospital conducted a fill the van food drive, collecting 1,057 items weighing in at 1,094 pounds.

East Fork Professional Firefighters Association raised $7,800 by passing the boot on Giving Tuesday.

“(The cash) gives us more flexibility and efficiency to respond to the ongoing challenges we face in providing for the community,” she said. “Our community’s generosity never fails to blow us away.”

The three-decade old drive started in 1992 but didn’t land at the Carson Valley Inn in Minden until 1999.
