Potential burglar chased off by armed resident

An armed Johnson Lane resident chased off a possible burglar on Saturday morning in connection with series of home burglaries in northern Carson Valley.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, a Chiquita Circle resident woke on Saturday morning to see a man wearing a ski mask looking through the windows.

“(The) resident chased him off with a gun,” according to a sheriff’s office post on Twitter. “(The) suspect yelled ‘get in the car’ to another unknown suspect and fled in a white Ford Escape.”

On Friday evening, a Porter Drive home in Saratoga Springs was burglarized around 8:45 p.m. when the front window was broken.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a white SUV was seen in the vicinity.

It’s possible that after being chased off on Saturday morning, the burglars returned to the scene of the Porter burglary.

“About 10 minutes later at the Porter residence, it was reported that someone was again breaking into that house,” according to the post. “The reporting party saw an arm coming through cardboard that was covering the window that was broken during the original burglary, and a similar vehicle description was reported.”

The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information on the break-ins to call 911.
