Genoa, Nev. — A $20,000 fine for advertising a vacation home rental in Lakeridge without a permit was upheld by the advisory board 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon. New VHR board member Glen Wolfson was hesitant to support a maximum fine on his first day and voted against the motion.


The homeowners association for Lakeridge is seeking an injunction to prevent short-term rentals and a neighbor told the advisory board that is due for a hearing in district court in the near future.


The Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Job Fair and Volunteer Expo is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center in Gardnerville.


East Fork firefighters and Douglas County deputies are responding to a report of a vehicle into a power pole 6:20 a.m. today on Genoa Lane just east of Main Street. A rear-end collision just south of Topsy took an odd turn when both drivers took off as deputies arrived around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.


I got a note that the Edna Ditch is full. It’s not alone as sloughs, canals and creeks fill up across Carson Valley. The flood watch starts 5 p.m. today with minor mainstem flooding forecast along both Forks of the Carson River beginning late Friday.


The morning break between the forecast flow of 13 feet and the actual flow of 12.32 feet is continuing on the East Fork at Horseshoe Bend, according to the Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service.


The West Fork on the other hand is right where it’s forecast to be bouncing around between the action stage of 12.5 feet and the minor flood stage of 13.5 feet.


The last time Minden’s high temperature cracked 80 degrees was Oct. 22, 2022, at the end of last year’s long growing season.


Today the high temperature is forecast to hit 81 on its way up to 85 on Friday. Otherwise, we should see sunny skies and a light breeze out of the west this afternoon.
