Junior Hole-in-one at Carson Valley

Junior golfer Matthew Vaillancourt hit a hole in one this weekend at Carson Valley Golf Club this past weekend. Vaillancourt, who is 10 years old, sunk his hole-in-one from 62 yards out on the 17th hole, during the opening day of the PGA Jr. League.

Montross leads Eagle Valley Men’s Club field

John Montross fired a two-under-par 70 to take the low gross honors at the Eagle Valley Men’s Club tournament April 9 at Eagle Valley West Golf Course.

Montross also took the low net (after handicap is applied) in the first flight with a one-over-par 73, followed by Nick Providenti with 74. Milo Beauchman, Rick Green, Eric Larson, Lane Maestretti and Andrew Sels tied for third with 76.

In the second flight (players with higher handicaps), John Meyer led the way with a one-over-par low net 73. Jim Higgins, Paul Jorgensen and Stevan Lyon tied for second with 78.

In the third flight, Jordan Meyer was first with an even-par low net 72. Gary Yoakum came in second with 76, while Manny Lopez and Bert Wells tied for third with 80.

The season runs every Sunday through Oct. 29 at the Eagle Valley West Course in Carson City and will feature weekly games with three flights based on handicap and optional skins games.

Information about the men’s club and the season schedule (with two away dates), application, formats (all shotgun starts and mainly individual stroke play), and the club’s rules and policies can be found under “clubs” on the course web site, eaglevalleygolfcourse.com. Golfers may print the application and mail it in or stop by the Eagle Valley golf shop to pick up one up.

Genoa Lakes Ladies’ Golf Club tees off 

The Genoa Lakes Ladies’ Golf Club opened the 2023 golfing season on Tuesday. Women golfers age 18 and over are eligible to join this friendly group of women golfers.

Weekly tournaments are offered for members on Tuesday mornings at one of the Genoa Lakes Golf Club courses, April through the first part of October. A $7 buy-in is required to participate in weekly tournaments and closest to the pin contests. Annual membership dues are $160, and cover GHIN handicap, 3 complimentary luncheons, hole-in-one fund, and year-end awards. GHIN-only and “booster” memberships also are offered. Join by March 31 to be included in the 2023 GLLGC membership roster. All GLLGC members with an established GHIN handicap are eligible to participate in Northern Nevada Golf Association’s High Sierra Team Play for an additional $5 per year. Team play provides the opportunity to meet women golfers from all over Northern Nevada and play many of the region’s interesting and challenging golf courses.

Carson Valley women start season

The Carson Valley women’s club kicked off the 2023 season with a four-person scramble on April 4. The Carson Valley Golf course hosted a continental breakfast for the 39 women who showed up to play.

The team of Mary Milligan, Lacey Leonard and Joni Taylor took first place. Lorna Johnston, Felicia Sotomayor, Jan Singyke and Vicki Rutledge took second place. Vickie Oland, Lehua Shank, Melinda Johnson and Jeannine Felix came in third place.

Louise Sparks won closest to the pin on hole 1, Debbie Knapp was the closest to the pin on hole 13 and Peggy Frick was the closest to the pin on hole 18.
