Fleet Reserve honors contest finalists

Douglas County school students were among the 13 who qualified for the Fleet Reserve Association’s essay contest with the theme “What does the American flag stand for.”

Nine students attended a luncheon in their honor, including Carson Valley Middle School student Svea Nilssen, Faith Christian Academy students Briella Bodenstein, Krystle Dixon, Noah and Zachary Smit and Sierra Lutheran High School student Samantha Steyn. Yerington High School students Riley Aldridge, Trinity Rickets and Danielle McLaughlin were also in attendance.

Not present were Douglas High School students Carly Van Wagenen, Kiarra Depaz and Malena Van Wagenen, and Brooke Wharton.

The next contest beginning in the new school year will have the theme: “What Memorial Day Means To Me.”
