Genoa, Nev. — Douglas High School reached back to 2005 for its new inductees in the school hall of fame at Wednesday's Homecoming FallFest celebration. Former Douglas High School Athletic Director Steve Wilcox and Tiger skier and horsewoman Haley Donnatin Hastie were added to the roll.

I counted four crashes in as many hours on Wednesday. A motorcyclist who reportedly went 20 feet down an embankment off Highway 208 just east of Holbrook Junction at around 6:10 p.m. was helicoptered to Roseville for treatment. There were also crashes at Topsy around 2:15 p.m. and two collisions in Minden, including a semi vs. a tractor and a two-vehicle wreck near the AM/PM.

Wednesday was a very bad day to drive between Minden and Carson City. Traffic was backed up in all directions from the Topsy wreck and motorists were ducking down Genoa Lane to avoid the backup on Highway 395 related to the tractor wreck.

An agreement between Douglas County and the Tahoe Douglas Visitor’s Authority to partially fund a micro-transit system to help public transit at Lake Tahoe goes before county commissioners 10 a.m. today.

The money for the transit system will come from the Transient Lodging License Tax and must be used for transportation at the Lake. Commissioners meet 10 a.m. at the historic Douglas County Courthouse, 1616 Eighth St., Minden.

A family Science, Technology, Engineering and Math night is 5-7 p.m. today at the River Fork Ranch in Genoa. In Gardnerville, the Third Thursday Wine Walk is 4:30-7:30 p.m. today.

So, how smoky will it be this evening for these outdoor events? I have no idea. There’s no reason that I can tell for it to be as clear as it was this morning. While we’re enjoying good quality air, Carson is recording unhealthy levels and Reno has very unhealthy levels and the Mosquito Fire is still growing.

Forecasters are betting the smoke will be back this afternoon with haze after 4 p.m. We’ll see. Otherwise, the weather will be partly sunny clearing with a high of 77 degrees. The wind will pick up at 5-10 mph this afternoon.
