Genoa, Nev. — Serrell Smokey won a second term as Washoe Tribal Chairman, according to preliminary results issued by tribe’s Election Board. Smokey received 199 votes to Rueben Vasquez’ 124. Challenges are due by Thursday.


East Fork Fire Protection District Board members got their first look at revised regulations that includes, but isn’t limited to, requiring sprinkler systems in new homes more than 1,000 feet away from a hydrant or a water tank that can provide fire flow. Trustee Mike Sommers proposed requiring a fire detection system in those homes that don’t comply with either.


District trustees are proposing a public outreach campaign to let people know what they are doing and why in November. Board President Jacques Etchegoyhen said he wanted to err on the side of transparency in the regulation approval.


Carson Valley Community Food Closet and the Family Support Council are having a Costume Patch 3:30-5:30 p.m. today featuring free costumes, pumpkins and fall treats at the closet, 1251 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville.

I might have gotten a little ahead of myself.


Mother Nature is about to bring some authority to autumn with a chance of 1-2 inches of snow on the Sierra passes on Saturday night as the snow level is forecast to drop to 5,000-6,000 feet. Temperatures are expected to drop 15-25 degrees with odds that Western Nevada valleys will see low temperatures in the 20s.


We’ve still got some mild days in the forecast today through Friday. Expect sunny skies and a high around 78 degrees today with the wind out of the northeast at 5-10 mph. Tonight’s low is forecast to drop to 37 degrees.
